Ombre Rose arrived in 1981 and has been quietly in print ever since, which for a powder-heavy floral is remarkable. It is the reference for what people mean by a powdery perfume.

Aldehydes, rosewood and geranium give it a soapy, faintly waxy opening with peach behind. The heart is a proper old-school bouquet — rose, orris root, ylang-ylang and lily-of-the-valley over sandalwood, cedar and vetiver — and then it settles into iris, heliotrope, honey, tonka and vanilla with a dusting of cinnamon. Warm, enveloping and closer to face powder than to a flower shop.
