Boss Selection arrived in 2006 as Hugo Boss's fresh-spicy proposition for men, and it still wears like a tailored one. Grapefruit, mandarin and bergamot open it with a knock of pepper; the heart brings geranium, star anise and cedar leaves; and vetiver, patchouli and musk hold the base together.

Citrus on top, dry wood underneath, nothing sweet anywhere — which is why it works for office hours and warm afternoons rather than late nights.
