Kelly Calèche, 2007, is Jean-Claude Ellena at his most restrained, and it does something very few fragrances attempt: a leather built out of flowers rather than tar.

Rose and mimosa open it, with a green tuberose through the heart, and the leather underneath is suede-soft — more the inside of a handbag than a saddle. Iris and a little vetiver finish it. Quiet, precise and unmistakably Hermès; if you want a leather that announces itself, this is not it.
