Chant D'aromes For Women

Chant d'Arômes was Jean-Paul Guerlain's first composition for the house, in 1962, and it is the quietest thing in the Guerlain catalogue. Made, by his own account, for a woman who did not want to be noticed from across a room.

Honeysuckle and jasmine sit at the centre, softened by peach and apricot skin and lifted by a green top that fades quickly. Underneath it is powdery rather than sweet, with orris and a clean woody-musk close. Reserved, old-fashioned in the way that reads as manners rather than age, and best in mild weather.
