Devotion For Men

Dolce & Gabbana Devotion For Men puts coffee at the centre and builds around it. Lemon opens the eau de parfum sharp and bright, then gives way almost immediately to a roasted coffee accord that carries the whole wear — Olivier Cresp's composition is unusually single-minded, and better for it. Patchouli underneath keeps the sweetness in check and gives the dry-down its earthy weight.

It reads as dessert-adjacent without tipping into gourmand: think espresso rather than mocha. Projection is strong for the first hour and settles close after that, so one or two sprays is plenty.

An evening fragrance, and a cold-weather one. The coffee turns cloying in heat and comes into its own under a coat.
